Kamran Brohi is a Lecturer in the Institute of Mathematics & Computer Science (IMCS), University of Sindh (UoS) Jamshoro, which is the 2nd oldest university in Pakistan. He has been serving there since 2001, in various capacities i.e. Research Associate, Web Developer, Lecturer, Web Administrator & Network Administrator.  He completed his B.Sc. (Hons) Computer Science and M.Sc. (Hons) Computer Science from the same institute, where he is serving now as a faculty member.

He was also appointed as the first official Web Administrator of University of Sindh in the year 2002. He was responsible for the design, development, programming and maintenance of the official website of the University (www.usindh.edu.pk) and he also created many sub domains for the various faculties, sections and wings of the University.

During his services, he was also appointed as the Coordinator for CUSAC (Commonwealth Universities Study Abroad Consortium) Program under ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities), for University of Sindh. The CUSAC is a group of Universities from around the Commonwealth who are committed to increasing internationalization at their institutions. CUSAC functions as a network to facilitate the formation of partnerships to provide student exchange and study abroad opportunities, and also as a forum for members to share good practice and policy on all areas of internationalization. During this period, he managed to establish linkage with one of the member universities in Malaysia i.e Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and helped both universities to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the exchange of the undergraduate students. Due to this, for the first time, University of Sindh was able to send five students, from Computer Scinece, Business Administration and International Relations for one semester study at Universiti Sains Malaysia. This exchange was fully supported and sponsored by ACU.

He is also the member of the Sindh University Alumni Association (Adhoc Management Committee) and he has recently started an online group at Facebook for the Alumni Network. He is working for the expansion and improvement of the Sindh University Alumni through this network.  He is also working for starting the chapters of Sindh University Alumni in the country and throughout the worlds. He is drafting a handbook of rules and regulations for the said purpose. If you are a former student of University of Sindh or its affiliated colleges (private of government) you can join the network by visiting the Facebook group and by sending a request for joining.

He is also an official Advisor of Mendeley for Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and University of Sindh Jamshoro. Mendeley is a cross-platform application (Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone) that helps researchers manage and annotate their scientific paper collections. Researchers can also set up collaborative projects, work and discuss in groups, and share data on Mendeley’s web platform. Mendeley users’ research paper collections are anonymously pooled on the web platform, creating a crowdsourced research database with a unique layer of social information – each research paper is connected with socio-demographic information about its audience. This data is made available to the public via Mendeley’s API, enabling  research groups to build applications on top of it.

At present, he is on study leave and pursuing his PhD studies at Malaysia. If you are a student of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) or University of Sindh Jamshoro (Pakistan)  and wish to communicate with him, regarding any issue related to your research or Mendeley in particular, you can always send him an email at kamran@usindh.edu.pk .
